Blood donation is helpful in reducing the risks of heart and liver ailments. An increase in iron content in the body leads to heart and liver diseases. as the body can absorb only a limited amount of iron, any excess iron intake gets stored in the heart, liver and the pancreas. This subsequently leads to increase in the risk of cirrhosis, liver failure, pancreatic diseases and heart abnormalities similar to irregular heart rhythms. Blood donation helps to regulate the iron levels and reduces heart and liver ailments.

Blood donation reduces weight of the donor. This is helpful to people suffering from obesity and those having a high risk of cardiovascular diseases. However, the blood donation process should not be much frequent and shouldn’t be taken as a way of weight loss. A person should always consult a doctor before going for blood donation.
